There is an outdoor classroom at Discovery that has been neglected for 10+ years. The second graders are excited to start to take care of it! We will be creating a butterfly garden (flowers). Please look for the note that was sent home for permission for your child to have their picture on the website. We will never put any child's names on any part of the website. This is just for family enjoyment to get involved and see what we are doing!
www.cartons2gardens.com is a competition nationwide to get kids thinking about reusing their milk cartons from lunch. We have just started collecting the milk cartons and will be designing items for the garden. We will also use the cartons to plant their seeds in!
Compost is an easy way to get nutrition into the soil, teach children how to not waste their food, and a cool science experiment to see how food breaks down! Every day at lunch we will be collecting the raw fruits and veggies to go in our compost. We are on the lookout for a compost bin. If anyone has an old bin they may not be using we would love to have it!
On Friday Ms. Carroll's and Mrs. Lake's class went and cleaned up the trash from the outside garden! It had a lot more garbage then it looked like. We used gloves and partnered up. If you didn't know they were looking for garbage you would have thought from the look and sound they were doing an egg hunt! They loved being involved!
